HSU-01 High Speed Unwinding Force Tester

1. Introduction
HSU-01 high-speed unwinding force tester, also known as a tape unwind tester, is a machine designed to measure the force required to unwind adhesive tapes from their rolls at a rapid, controlled speed.

2. Principle
A specimen roll that is mounted upon a free-turning roller assembly. A loadcell meaning the unwinding force is attached to the roller. A driven roll of the machine operates at a constant rate of up to 60±3 m/min, to unwinding the roll. The unwinding force is measured in the process.

3. Benefits
High speed unwinding force test is one of the many procedures for testing pressure-sensitive adhesive-coated tapes.
1. Unwind adhesion determines the force needed in unrolling a roll of tape. Unwinding at high speed will give indication of the unwind performance in use.
2. Unwind force of pressure-sensitive adhesive tape is the force required to remove the tape from the roll when measured in accordance with this test method.
The unwind force at the specified rate gives information on the combined effects of the interlayer adhesion in the roll and of the physical condition of the backing and adhesive mass. This unwind force is useful as a measure of the effects of natural, shelf or accelerated aging, and the unwind force determined at the fast rate of removal is useful as a measure of the ease of unwinding in mechanized or hand dispensers. A tape width of 25 mm (1 in.) is considered optimum for this test method.
