1. Introduction of Softness Tester
Softness tester is used for the determination of the stiffness of fabrics by measuring the force required to push a specimen into a slot. It’s mainly used in tissue, non-woven, tobacco sheet, fabrics etc. to evaluate the physical property of end product or semi-finished product.
2. Principle of Softness Tester
A piece of sample rests on a slot, i.e. two flat plate support separated by a fixed distance. A force is applied to the sample into the slot (about 8mm deep) by a penetrating blade, or called a probe, which is attached to the tester driving mechanism. The maximum force needed to push the fabric through the support is measured as a resistance to bending of the sample. This force is regarded as softness.
