1. Introduction of NZD-01 MIT Folding Endurance Tester
NZD-01 MIT Folding Endurance Tester is designed for assessing the fold endurance performance of sheet materials such as paper, cardboard, and tobacco sheets, with a thickness of less than 1.25 mm.
During the test, specimens undergo double folding under standard tension conditions, and the logarithm (base 10) of the number of double folds at the point of specimen fracture is measured. This logarithmic value is referred to as fold endurance, serving as a crucial metric to gauge a material’s resistance to damage during bending or folding. Typically, higher fold endurance values indicate greater durability and resistance to folding stress.
The MIT Fold Endurance Tester finds applications in various industries, including paper production, cardboard manufacturing, and the tobacco industry. Conducting this test allows experts in materials science to evaluate how materials might withstand folding and bending stresses encountered in real-world usage scenarios. This information aids manufacturers and researchers in selecting or improving materials based on their performance characteristics.

3. Test Principle
Level the instrument. Turn the oscillating folding head so that the slot is vertical. Place a weight on top of the plunger, equivalent to the tension desired on the specimen, normally 9,81 N, tap the plunger sideways to eliminate friction, and check and set the load indicator. Lock the plunger in Position and, without touching the part of the Strip to be folded, clamp the test piece firmly and squarely in the jaws, with the surface of the test piece lying wholly within one plane, i.e. flat, and with the sides free from the oscillating jaw mounting plate. Unscrew the plunger lock and remove the weight, thus applying the specified tension to the Strip. When removing the weight, also observe the load indicator for possible movement. If movement occurs, readjust the tension to that shown with the weight on the plunger. Commence folding and continue until the test piece breaks, when the counter will automatically stop. Record the number of double folds required to break the test piece. Return the counter reading to Zero.

7. FAQs
1. What is the primary objective of the MIT Folding Endurance Test, and how does it assess material performance?
The MIT Folding Endurance Test aims to evaluate a material’s durability under repeated folding. It assesses performance by measuring the logarithm (base 10) of the number of double folds at the point of specimen fracture under standardized tension conditions.
2. How does the MIT Folding Endurance Tester control folding parameters, such as speed and angle?
The tester allows for adjustable folding rates between 20 to 200 double folds per minute and maintains a specified folding angle of 135 degrees. This control ensures reproducibility and standardization in testing.
3. What significance does the spring tension hold in the MIT Folding Endurance Test, and how is it adjusted?
Spring tension, typically ranging from 4.91 N to 14.72 N, is crucial for applying consistent tension to the specimen. It is adjusted using weights corresponding to the desired tension level.
4. Can the MIT Folding Endurance Tester accommodate different materials, and how is this versatility achieved?
Yes, the tester is versatile and can accommodate various materials. This adaptability is achieved through the availability of multiple folding heads and weights, allowing testing across a wide range of materials and thicknesses.
